Personal Therapy for Students and Trainees
So, you've started your training or maybe you're a year or two into it all now and need to get signed up for mandatory personal therapy.
Perhaps you've already had a personal therapist and fancy a change this year or maybe, you just haven't clicked with who you're working with right now.
It's a tough course to get through and that's not to mention what it can bring up for you personally!
Looking back, I really don't think anyone ever warned me about all the personal awareness and development 'stuff' that was required, or if they did, I don't think I took it in.
During my own Counselling training, I recall many pivotal moments where vital professional skills were taught by my tutors. However, more profoundly than that, I often reflect on how my tutors also helped me develop personal insight and awareness beyond what I'd ever imagined possible.
The exploration and knowledge of self, personal motivations, dynamics and attachments has served me well throughout my own Counselling career.
Personal therapy over my 4 years of training was a little hit and miss to tell you the truth!
Through personal experiences of seeing different therapists throughout my training I know what professional, ethical, helpful and effective therapy feels like.
Unfortunately I also know what unethical and judgemental therapy feels like too!
After these experiences, I vowed to do much better for 'my' students.
I want you to really get the most out of personal therapy, as I really do believe it can be truly life changing!
I now work closely with trainees and students from all over the country.
I am a personal therapist and also an external supervisor for those on placements too.
Many choose to stay on beyond the 10 or 20 mandatory hours required from the course to continue to explore themselves and their world even further.
Many have returned to me many years later as Supervisees since qualifying and starting their own careers and practices.
It is a real passion of mine to help trainees and students find their own way of being the very best Counsellor they can be. I find it extremely rewarding to both nurture and challenge, support and reflect.
It's my belief that you can't really expect clients to share their deepest, darkest moments, unless you know what that feels like for yourself.
To sit in front of someone and feel all the feelings that come up, to really hear yourself and be heard and accepted by another.
No judgement - just space, time and a gentle challenge or two to explore and reflect on your dreams, passions, fears and hang-ups.
So if you're looking for further development, confidence building, practical help and support, self awareness, insight and maybe a few of your own lightbulb moments, then get in touch.
I'm happy to chat about your needs either by phone or in person before you sign up with me.
