From an early age I was drawn to helping others, working and volunteering with many charities throughout my life. Alongside this, I experienced and overcame significant personal challenges and traumatic events, which inspired me to retrain as a counsellor.
I began my counselling training in 2013, completing a Foundation Degree at Teesside University and later graduating with a First Class Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Counselling from the University of Sunderland.
Since 2017, I have worked as a self-employed counsellor, supporting clients with a wide range of mental health issues.
My first private practice, Therapy With Kay, began in Redcar, Teesside and now I work exclusively online, offering counselling and psychotherapy to adults all across the UK.
I work in a Pluralistic way, which means I tailor therapy to each client by drawing on a range of counselling approaches.
My extensive training includes:
I am a trauma-informed counsellor with specialist Pre-Trial Therapy training, enabling me to support survivors of sexual violence, victims of violent crime, and people who have lived through or witnessed traumatic events.
As an Accredited Registrant member of the NCPS, I regularly update my skills through workshops and CPD, completing at least 30 hours of additional training every year to stay current with the latest therapeutic interventions.
Over the past decade, I've supported thousands of clients in both face-to-face and online counselling and I continue to love this work as much as the day I started.
I’ve worked within the NHS, GP surgeries, counselling agencies and charities across the UK, gaining a wide breadth of experience.
I also continue to provide affiliate counselling support to organisations and Employment Assistance Programmes ensuring that those most in need can access therapy in their time of need.
In recognition of my work, I was honoured to receive the Inspiring Women: Women in Business Award in 2022.
In 2020 I trained as a Clinical Supervisor and I now offer supervision for both trainee and qualified counsellors across the UK.
My supervision style is both clinical and creative, informed by the Seven-Eyed Model of Supervision, Kolb’s Experiential Learning Cycle and Carroll’s Tasks of Supervision.
I also offer business mentoring and coaching for counsellors, drawing on over 20 years of business experience as the director of two successful companies.
This includes support for counsellors who want to build sustainable private practices, balance self-care with business growth, or even run therapeutic retreats for counsellors – something I have first-hand experience in designing and facilitating.
I believe therapy should never feel like a “conveyor belt” or a “faceless service.” You are an individual, and you deserve personalised support. That’s why I spend time not only listening deeply in our sessions but also reflecting, planning and sometimes researching between sessions to ensure you feel truly supported.
Having been in therapy myself, I understand how daunting it can feel to take that first step. I also know how transformative it can be when the right therapeutic relationship is in place.
My goal is always to create a meaningful safe, respectful and non-judgemental space where you feel accepted and heard, just as you are.
My practice is fully inclusive and welcoming to people of all backgrounds, identities and experiences, including those who are LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent, or part of minority communities. I know what it feels like to be met with judgement, assumptions and prejudice, and I work hard to make my practice the opposite.
Alongside my counselling and supervision private practice, I run workshops on creative self-care and professional development and I continue to mentor counselling students and trainees. Many of the trainees I’ve supported return years later as supervisees, which is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.
I also run therapeutic retreats for counsellors and therapists across the UK, bringing together personal growth, CPD opportunities and much-needed rest. These retreats offer space to step away from day-to-day pressures, focus on your own wellbeing, and connect with others in the profession. They’re designed to be restorative, supportive and inspiring – a true blend of relaxation, creativity and professional development.
With over a decade of counselling experience, specialist trauma training, NCPS accreditation, thousands of client hours and ongoing CPD, I bring both professional expertise and genuine care to every client and supervisee I work with.
Whether you are looking for online counselling, personal therapy as a trainee, or clinical supervision and mentoring anywhere in the UK, I’d love to support you.
